To help us achieve that goal we have invested in advanced technology to help us find it when it is a small flat lesion. Because as with most cancer, if you find it early and small your chances of surviving it are much better.
Technology makes a difference.
What technology are we using? Blue Light Spectrum Fluorescence. Sounds fancy, and it is, but it’s also a simple non-invasive exam that takes 3 minutes or less.
How simple is it? Well, first we feel for lumps or swelling, then we look for anything abnormal, and finally we put on a pair of glasses with special green filters and use a small device that looks like a flashlight to look again with the blue light to see if there are any dark spots. That’s it!
Regular Screening Saves Lives
The ADA recommends that everyone should have this exam once a year but that is a minimal suggestion. We are very serious about our oral cancer mission so we perform an oral cancer screening at every cleaning appointment and we will use the blue light technology every time.
